The Pomeranian is kept mainly as a pet. It is a very energetic, friendly, affectionate and intelligent dog. Its innate intelligence makes it easy to train. It bonds very quickly to its owner and may become melancholy if left alone for long periods. It has the tendency to bark whenever it hears a suspicious noise, and this tendency must be curbed very early on with the proper training, else it will become a very noisy dog. It gets along very well with older children but not so much with very small children.
The Pomeranian is a small dog, since its height ranges from 13 to 28 cm tall and it weighs from 1.5 to 3.5 kilos. Its coat is so rich and fluffy that the dog often resembles a round furry ball. Its tail also has a very rich coat and it stands erect over its back. The coat-color varies greatly, but more often it is orange, white, and black-and-white.
