The Jack Russell Terrier has been bred to accompany hunting dogs and to drive small prey, like foxes, out of its hole or nest. It is a jolly, fearless, insistent and dedicated dog, and it loves its human family, including children. As it is a very energetic dog, it needs plenty of daily exercise, as well as mental stimulation, else it will become destructive or melancholy. It must be trained and socialized from early on, else it may become stubborn, or aggressive toward other dogs and strangers. It may live in an apartment as long as its owner provides it with sufficient daily exercise and activity. It has the tendency to bark a lot.
The Jack Russell is a small dog, since it stands from 25 to 38 cm tall and it weighs from 6 to 8 kilos. Its coat is short and thick, and it can be soft, rough, or something in-between. The color of its coat can be either pure white or else white with black, brown, grey, or fawn patches.
