The English Greyhound has been used for hunting and dog-races, but recently it has become popular as a pet. Although it is an athletic dog is does not require a lot of exercise, and is quiet, carefree and gentle. It may live in an apartment, as it doesn’t bite, doesn’t require a lot of space, and likes to nap for many hours, to the point that it may be accurately described as lazy. It is a sensitive dog, so it does not respond well to harsh training. Because of its predatory instinct it is dangerous toward small pets like cats and rabbits. But it can coexist peacefully with other dogs, as well as small children, although because of its laziness it may not be an ideal playing partner.
The slim and muscular English Greyhound has an elegant and aerodynamic look. It is longer than tall compared to other dog breeds, but without looking overly longish. Its coat is very short, thick and smooth, so it does not require regular grooming. The male’s height ranges from 71 to 76 cm tall and it weighs from 27 to 40 kilos. The female’s height ranges from 68 to 70 cm tall and it weighs from 27 to 34 kilos. The color of its coat varies greatly. Among the colors that are often met are white, grey, black, brown, reddish, as well as combinations of these colors.
