The Dogue De Bordeaux was originally bred for hunting, but today it is used mainly as a guard dog and a family pet. Despite its fearsome and imposing look, it is in reality a jolly and friendly dog. Its protective instinct is highly developed, and so it is ideal as a house-guard. It is a loyal and devoted dog. It must be trained and socialized from early on to prevent it from becoming overly dominant, arrogant and stubborn.
The Dogue De Bordeaux is a powerful, muscular and heavy dog. Its height ranges from 58 to 70 cm tall and it weighs from 35 to 50 kilos. Its coat is short, thin and soft. Its coat-color ranges from light red to reddish brown, or else it is fawn, orange, grey or black. It may also have white marks on its chest and paws.
