The Bullmastiff is used mainly as a guard of properties and people. Its fearless and brave temperament makes it ideal for this role. It is an energetic, friendly, calm, and happy dog, very loyal to its master but cautious toward strangers. It enjoys and needs human company, and is also good with children. Because of its size it is not suited for apartment-life, but may live in a spacious yard, as long as it takes plenty of exercise in the outdoors. It must be trained and socialized from early on.
The Bullmastiff is a large dog, since its height ranges from 63 to 69 cm tall and it weighs from 45 to 55 kilos, the male being larger than the female. It is large, muscular and heavy, but at the same time it is very quick and agile. It has a short black-colored muzzle and dark-colored eyes. Its coat is short, thick and rough. Its coat-color may be fawn, red, or brindle (grey with dark brown or yellow stripes), and it may also have a white apron-like patch on the chest.
