As part of earning a bachelor’s degree, all students devote a significant portion of their overall study at RISD to learning across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. All undergraduate students at RISD take first-year studios in Experimental and Foundation Studies, followed by a major course of study in a specific fine arts or design discipline beginning sophomore year.Rigorous courses in Liberal Arts enrich studio learning. Additional opportunities to focus one’s study in a concentration, or minor, can augment one’s studio major. RISD currently provides opportunities for students to study a semester abroad at 45 participating institutions in 26 countries.
